You are Billy, just your normal average kid who likes to wathc tv. One day your das bought home a new vcr but once you sit down and try to watch a movie the screen explodes and sucks you into the movie world. Now you must face five worlds each with their own distinct style if you are to survive and get back home again.

Video kid is a multidirectional shooting game in which you battle in five movie worlds: medieval, wild west, alien planet, the mob (gangsterland) and horror world. Each world consists of three levels and fit in with the theme of the movie perfectly for instance in wild west world you are dressed as a cowbow and you'll fly across an Indian village while the boss is a giant Indian blowing bubbles at you.
The levels scroll by themselves and you will have to navigate through obstacles as well as take care of any enemies coming at you. Be carefull not too get stuck behind an object or wall because getting trapped is a real possibility and you will lose a life instantly. Luckily you aren't helpless as you can shoot and drop bombs, once in a while you can find powerups that allow you to shoot in multiple directions at one time or things like shields and if things get a little out of control you can drop your big bomb which will hit everything on the screen.
At the end of a world you are greeted by a boss characters which are just as wild and wonderfull as the rest of the characters. My favorite is the boss of the alien planet which are several huge space invaders.

Video kid is quite a fun shooter though at first you'd think it was a platform game. The graphics are detailed and very colorfull and the bosses are huge. Everything scrolls very fluently and there is no jerky graphics to be seen anywhere. The first world scrolls in pretty much all directions but the levels after that only scroll horizontally which is a shame. Also some of the character don't really fit in, the boss in the medieval level is a giant mechanical owl which is a bit baffling. Overall it's a fun and challenging shooter and it's also one of the few that scrolls in more than one direction, definately worth a go.

Overal rating: 8/10
