- Erik the viking, The saga of -
|
|
I checked out this game because
I know Erik the viking from the movie directed by Terry Jones and thought
that it would be based on that. However after playing it I found out that
it's a text adventure based on the book by Terry Jones which I never read
and the game isn't anything like the movie. That means no jokes, no High
Brasil and no travelling to the edge of the world in search of valhalla.
OK I have to admit that I did not complete the game but I went far into
the game without any of those things.
You start the game on a hilltop and after going back to your village you
notice that there is noone around and you suddenly realize that they are
kidnapped! Don't ask me how he knows because I don't know either. After
that though the game is extremely vage and offers no clue whatsoever on
what to do or where to go from there. For a text-adventure the story is
very important and since you are given none it only leaves you with a text
parser and some pictures that display your surroundings. Actually the pictures
themselves are built up so slowly that I just turned them off (type 'words'
to do this or 'pictures' to activate them again) leaving you with only a
text parser.
There is absolutely nothing that I can recommend about this game and if
it were not for the movie/book license I doubt this game would ever have
been released. I suggest you see the movie instead, it will be infinitely
more fun than this. For those of you that actually do want it I added a
solve to the game.

The pictures are built up very slowly but with CCS64 you can speed

when running that fast. |

Because of the higher resolution the graphics are actually the best of the
