Omega is a very unique game, the settings is the future where wars are still being fought by mankind.
Their main fighting force consists of tanks but the thing is all of them are computer controlled.
It's up to you to program the artificial intelligence for the tanks so that your country will come out on
top of the war.
The game starts with you at the controls of a computer and you have to design everything from scratch.
There is a simple tankdesign and such but you will have to do better than that to defeat your
enemies. You can choose from multiple chassis for your tank and you can then attach all manner of
weaponry to them as you see fit, ofcourse you'll have to mind the total cost of the tank based on
strategic decisions. Once you outfit a tank you will have to program them with enough intelligence
so that they can function on the battlefied because once there you will have no control over them
at all. The programming language is quite simple at heart and a simple line might read something like:
move tank forward 2 or if detect enemy fire missile. To get all the line to work together properly is
quite a task though so you can test all of your code on a simulator where you
can also create your own battlefield. Once everything is done
you are ready to take on the enemy but only time will tell if you are the best programmer.
Altough Omega isn't the only game where you can program tanks it is one of only a handfull of them.
There is a huge learning curve for the game which can easily turn off a lot of people but as someone
who like programming I found the challenge pretty interesting. There isn't much in the way of action and
you can forget about any fancy graphics because you only get the most basic of both. If you can get past that and the difficulties in
programming everything I'm sure you will get a kick out of programming your own killer tank.
Overal rating: 7/10
