- Microprose soccer -

Soccer games and sports games
in general have been around for ages but I find it let's say 'amusing' when
a company adds their company name to the game like they invented a whole
new kind of sport. Microprose soccer is basically a soccer game consisting
of outdoor and indoor soccer both with the same basic gameplay but with
some different rules.
Both indoor and outdoor have single matches, league or tournament options
which should pretty much speak for themselves. The difference between the
two is the number of players on each team, 11 for outdoor and 5 for indoor
(though I am not quite sure). The indoor game also allows you to bounce
your ball of the sides for some sleak 'curveballs'. The main aim is pretty
simple you just have to get the ball into the other teams goal which is
obviously harder than you think. You can tackle players to get the ball
into possession and you can play the ball between players to confuse the
opponent and to get a good scoring oppotunity.
Personally I don't like soccer at all so playing a soccer video game isn't
my favorite pasttime either. That's not too say I dislike all soccer games
though as there some I quite like such as kick off which was really fastpased.
Microprose soccer isn't that fastpased and it shows when scoring is easiest
(for me that is) when just walking the ball into the goal instead of shooting.
If you like soccer games then give it a try but for me this game doesn't
really float me boat.

| Amiga |
Released
in 1989.
Though released later and on a more powerfull platform there aren't
really any improvements over the 8-bit versions. |
| Amstrad
CPC |
Released
in 1988.
This is pretty much the same as the ZX version, in other words not
good. |
| C64 |
Released
in 1988.
The best 8-bit version and almost identical to the amiga version. |
| ZX
Spectrum |
Released
in 1988.
Bad graphics usually doesn't mean a bad game but it does when you
and your opponents are both black in color and almost identical. |
