- Face off! -

Games have been made about pretty much every popular sport out there and icehockey is no exception. Faceoff lets you control one team and you can either play a single match or a whole season of competition. Games are played in three periods of several minutes and if by the end of the match the score is tied the game goes into sudden death which means that whoever scores the first goal wins the game.

Before the game starts you can select the number of members each team has on the playing field ranging from two to six and other things like wether fights are turned on or off. After your players get into position on the field the referee drops the puck and it's a race to score as many goals as you can. There is a goalie standing in front of the (small) goal though so scoring isn't as easy as it sounds. If the action become too hot you can get into fights and the game will show the two opponents fighting it out on the screen, you can even control the player while this is going on. There is an option for a second player and you can choose to play against each other but you can also opt to play on the same team which was quite rare in those days.

Like many other sports icehockey is something you either really like or really don't, personally it doesn't do much for me so you'll have to excuse me if I got some of the terms wrong. The graphics do the job and the closeups of the fighting and shooting are especially good. The game itself isn't bad and if you like icehockey you might give it a go.

Overal rating: 6.5/10

Face off! was released for two different systems here are some notes:
C64 Released in 1987.
Game has been tested but not completed with CCS64 v2.0 win.
This is the original version and the closeup graphics are not present here as the c64 has a very limited amount of memory.
DOS Released in 1989.
Game has been tested but not completed on a DOS and Win2k PC.
This one has a nasty copy protection and when I patched the game the referee would never drop the puck so I left it unpatched and included the codes.
