Uninvited is an adventure
game from Icom simulations and it uses the same engine used in games like
deja vu and shadowgate. The interface uses a window system where each window
represents a different object. For instance if you open a mailbox a new
window will open showing the contents of the box, you can then simply drag
the items to your own inventory to pick them up.
The story of uninvited starts with you waking up after you crash your car
into a tree. Suddenly you realize that your sister who was sitting next
to you is gone but before you can worry about that you need to get out of
your car before it burns down! You get out no moment too soon as the car
explodes in a fiery ball of flame before your eyes. Looking around you see
a eery mansion and you have a feeling that your sister is being held there.
Seeing as there is very little else you can do you decide to go in.
Once inside you quickly find out some history about the mansion by reading
a few diaries. The mansion was once home of a wizard and his apprentice
but the apprentice turned to evil and turned on his master. One of the wizards
servants was able to stop the apprentice and seal him away but now because
of the evil magic the mansion is filled with undead. Can you find your sister
and get away safely or will the both of you join the undead in the mansion?
I've read some bad reviews about this game on the internet but personally
I don't think it's that bad. True it has some really annoying bits like
quick deaths everywhere, some obscure puzzles and shock-horror a MAZE (I
hate them!). Still many of these can be said of a lot of other adventure
games. There are some good things as there is plenty of adventuring to do
and the graphics are alright and also the story of the game unfolds while
you get more into the game. Compared to the other ICOM adventures this one
is the least of the bunch but it's good enough to warrant a go.

amiga own system to display it. |

Game has been tested but not completed with Steem v3.2.
The window system is remade for the ST and it does a pretty good job. |
| C64 |
Released
in 1988.
Game has been tested but not completed with CCS64 v2.0 win.
This suffers from the same problems all other mouse games have on
the c64 and that is controlling a pointer with a joystick isn't the
easiest way to do things. The lack of resolution also means the screen
is very crowded. |
| NES |
Released
in 1991 by Kemco.
Game has been tested but not completed with FCE ultra v0.98.12.
This version is quite different in control and some of the puzzles
are also changed. |
| Windows |
Remake
of the game released in 1993.
Game has been tested but not completed on a windows 2000 machine.
The most accessable version as you don't have to install anything
and you can simply start the game on any windows machine. |
| Others |
These
are not available.
Apple released in 1987.
Dos released in 1987, this has plenty of problems with saving, keyboards
and it only runs on really slow machines (286,386). |
