- Pac-man -
|
|
You must have heard of pacman,
that round yellow guy who eats dots and ghosts? No you say! well you must
have been living in a cave for the past 25 years or something as this game
is probably one of the most wellknown classic games around. You control
pacman and you have to eat all pills on the level but guarding them are
a bunch of ghosts. Luckily there are also powerpills on the level which
will render the ghosts harmless and it allows you to eat them as well. Ofcourse
being ghosts they can't die so they return to the center of the screen where
they can begin their hunt for you again. The level (yup there's only one!)
is build like a maze which will give you plenty of opportunity to evade
the ghosts but be carefull or they will trap you. The aim of the game is
to eat all the pills on the level which will take you to the next level.
On each level you can get a special item like a cherry or strawberry giving
you some extra points, this is the only thing that changes during the game.
Pacman was released at the beginning of the computer games era and it shows as the entire game consists of basically one screen with practically no variation whatsoever. I have no idea how many levels there are in total or even if you can finish the game. Still both the game and character have survived up to this day as there are still games made today that are based on pacman and the original game has been ported to things like mobiles and online java games. I doubt the game will last you very long but it's worth checking out as one of the most well known games in history.

Pac-man was released for many different systems here are some notes:
| Atari
2600 |
Released
in 1981.
Game has been tested but not completed with Stella v1.4.1.
The graphics look a bit 'enlarged' and instead of eating dots you
eat lines. |
| DOS |
Released
in 1983.
Game has been tested but not completed on a DOS PC.
This is pretty close to the original, ofcourse this is no big feat
really. |
| NES |
Released
in 1993.
Game has been tested but not completed with FCE ultra v0.98.12.
You can move to the side of the screen and you will appear on the
other side, other than this there is little change dispite being released
more than a decade after the orignal. |
| ZX
Spectrum |
Released
in 1983.
Game has been tested but not completed with emuZwin v2.5.
The graphics are tiny compared to the other version and pacman doesn't
scroll but only jumps from one dot to the next. |
| Others |
This
game was released on a lot of other systems but since none of them
really differ much from the ones here they are not available. |
