- Lemmings -

Ever since this game has been released there have been tons of sequels and spinoffs but this is where it all started. In Lemmings you control a bunch of characters called lemmings, these little creatures will mindlessly walk until they either run into a wall or if they fall down. You can control them by assigning them jobs to do like climbing, digging or stopping the other lemmings. All this is needed so that you can get them from the start of the level to the exit which is usually located in a different area of the level. If you save enough lemmings then you'll proceed to the next level where you have to start all over again.
The levels are welldesigned and on the easier difficulty levels you can usually complete the level in several ways because you are allowed to assign more tasks to the lemmings. On later levels and higher difficulty levels you have a very limited number of tasks to hand out and you'll have to save a higher amount of lemmings as well. Once you make a lemming do a certain task he will keep doing it until either he can go no further or if you assign another task to him. The exception are the stoppers which will remain in that position indefinately so you have to be carefull not to use too many because you have to destroy them at the end of the level. If you want to restart the level you can even push the nuke button and all the lemmings will start counting down and explode. If you think this is just for show then you're mistaken because some levels require you to blow some of the lemmings up to get to the exit.
I doesn't surprise me at all that Lemmings has become such a popular game because the idea is very original and the execution is done very well too. This adds up to a game that is easily accessable to most people and the veterans can take a shot at the mayhem levels which can be extremely difficult. Anyone who hasn't already played this game should definately check it out and those who already have might give it another go because it is quite addictive and fun.
